The Questions Parents Ask.

Honest answers to what comes up most — about the approach, the sessions, and whether this work is right for you.

What is Conscious Parenting?+

Conscious Parenting is a transformative approach developed by Dr Shefali Tsabary that brings together Western psychology and Eastern philosophy. Instead of trying to control a child’s behaviour, it invites parents to look inward and heal their own patterns. It values connection over correction and presence over perfection, so you can show up more authentically with your child.

How is it different from traditional parenting?+

Traditional parenting is hierarchical and focused on control, with the parent working to “fix” the child. Conscious Parenting treats the relationship as a partnership in which parent and child help each other grow. Children become our teachers, mirroring what we need to heal. The aim isn’t a “perfect” child, but an authentic one who is connected to themselves and their loved ones.

How is it different from Gentle Parenting?+

Gentle Parenting and similar approaches are child-focused. Conscious Parenting is parent-focused: through deep self-reflection, the parent learns to respond rather than react.

Why does it focus on the parent rather than the child?+

Children reflect our emotional state, and their behaviour often signals unmet needs or patterns they’ve absorbed from us. If we can’t recognise when we’re overwhelmed or dysregulated, it’s hard to help our child regulate. When the parent grows in self-awareness, the child feels safer and more connected, and their behaviour often changes naturally.

Can you coach my child?+

The main work is done with parents, because that’s where most of the change lies. If your child is over twelve and I feel it would help, we can decide together how to include them in a few sessions.

Is discipline part of Conscious Parenting?+

Conscious Parenting reframes discipline. Instead of trying to control behaviour, we see it as a sign that the child needs something, and we connect before we correct. Children are less likely to act out when they trust they’ll be heard and understood.

Can you help with tantrums, screen time, or sibling conflict?+

Yes, but not with quick fixes or reward charts. We explore what lies beneath the behaviour and what the moment is asking of you, so you can respond with clarity and connection.

How quickly does Conscious Parenting work?+

It isn’t a quick fix; it’s a lifelong practice. Patterns take years to form, so change takes time, but the inner work you do ripples through your whole family. I work in partnership with you, at your pace. There are no do-overs with our children, so if you’re here, let’s begin.

Is it effective with older children and teenagers?+

Yes. It supports families with children of every age. The brain keeps changing throughout life, so it’s never too late. As the proverb says, the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; the second-best time is now.

What if my partner isn’t on board?+

This is very common, and your growth still matters. Your changes may ripple out to your partner, or they may not, but having even one parent raising them consciously is already a gift to your child. I’ll help you navigate this. It isn’t easy being the one who breaks the cycle, but here you are.

Do I need to be a parent to work with you?+

No. We’ve all been parented, and our patterns show up in all our relationships. I also work with individuals facing life challenges, emotional blocks, or patterns they want to break.

Do you work with couples and co-parents?+

Yes. I work with individual parents, and with couples and co-parents who want to align their approach and understand each other better.

What can I expect from a session?+

Each session is a confidential safe space to explore what’s happening beneath the surface. I help you identify patterns and self-limiting beliefs and find practical strategies for change.

How is coaching different from therapy?+

Coaching is goal-oriented and focused on present challenges, while therapy focuses more on the past. We do look at childhood experiences, but only as they relate to what’s happening now. I am not a counsellor or medical professional, and I don’t diagnose, provide counselling, or prescribe medication.

What changes can I expect?+
  • More confidence in your parenting choices
  • A deeper connection with your children
  • Fewer power struggles
  • Better communication
  • Less stress, shouting, and reactivity
  • More trust
Am I ready for Conscious Parenting and Life Coaching?+

You may be ready if you are:

  • Embracing a growth mindset
  • Willing to look at yourself and explore your inner landscape
